Life has taken over and my blog has taken the back seat.
Summer has been wonderul. We spent a week at the beach with good friends and with Sean's family. It was a lot of fun for everybody. The boys loved the ocean and the swimming pools. And for some crazy reason while we were on vacation Logan decided to turn 3! I can't believe my baby is 3?! We had a little party for him at the beach. He said he wanted "chocolate jelly beans" for his birthday. Not sure where that idea came from but we searched high and low and found our local candy store at the mall had chocolate pudding flavored jelly belly jelly beans. He was very pleased. I'm thinking we could have skipped the cake entirely and just shoved a candle into a bowl of jelly beans.
Our life has been total chaos lately. We made the decision to sell our house in NC and move to West Virginia. North Carolina is an amazing state, but I grew up in WV and decided thats where I want to raise my boys. I have many friends from high school and college up in that are, not to mention my family will be a whole lot closer to me. My job now allows me to work from home so my office doesn't have to be in NC anymore. Its a risk, should I ever lose my job, but I felt it was a risk worth taking.
We found a house in Ona, WV that we loved so we pulled the trigger and made our offer. We are scheduled to close next week. We're still trying to sell our existing house in NC but we've had a lot of showings so I think it will sell soon. People just want a crazy cheap deal right now and we can't afford to do that. So Sean will be daddy daycare until we sell our house in NC and I'll work out of our new home in WV. In the end it will all be worth it, but getting there is an ongoing headache! Inspections, appraisals, closing attorneys, turning off utilities, turning on utilities, etc. I'm sort of glad we're moving before we sell our own home because if we were dealing with a sale on top of everything else I think I would lose my mind. I do hope our house sells very soon after we move into the new house though :)
The boys are doing wonderful. Brenden is his usual sweet self. I've been very proud at what a great big brother he his. He'll often give in and let Logan have his own way because he doesn't like his brother to cry. He shares all of his treats he gets at school with Logan. I told him last night he was a good big brother and he said "yah I know" lol
Logan is now a 3 year old. He loves his big brother. They role play all the time. One of them is always some sort of baby animal and the other is the mommy or daddy. Or sometimes they are both mommy and daddy and a stuffed animal is their child. They can literally play for HOURS having some sort of invented adventures. They have awesome imaginations. I love to just listen to their little imaginary world.
I hope to get caught up on pictures soon. My Picassa account is out of space so i'm getting some resistance from blogger when I try to upload pictures. I'll figure it out !!

It's a beautiful day to be a mommy
It's a beautiful day to be a mommy ... but then again, thats every day :) . When I had kids I totally thought I'd have 'babies' for longer than I did. Brenden is 4 going on 5, Logan is 3 going on 5. They are so independent and free-thinking. In some ways its great. I can send them to their play room and Sean and I can watch some olympics uninterrupted during the day. If Logan doesn't want to go to the bathroom by himself, Brenden will go with him and keep him company and tell him "good job" and "wash your hands!" Logan wants to imitate his big brother in as many ways as possible. One Sunday we sent Brenden to church for Vacation Bible School and Logan whined all day that he wanted Brenden to come home or he wanted to go to church so he could see him.
Logan will be 3 next month. How? What? Why? Didn't he just turn 2? Sometimes I look at him and still see his little baby cheeks and am reminded of that little 1 year old that had his sassy in his mouth everywhere he went. I still have a bowl of pacifiers in my cabinet that I can't bring myself to throw away. Now he's getting so tall and lanky and developing more of a 'little boy' look than that chubby little toddler he used to be. His baby fat is disappearing quickly. The other night Brenden said he was hot so we told him he could sleep in his underwear if he wanted. We went down later to make sure he had a blanket because he'd probably feel a little cool with no pj's on and I looked over at Logan who managed to strip himself down to his underwear too.. HAS to be like big brother. He's got a great smile. His grin goes from ear to ear. He's showing some strong will lately. Its like his terrible two's hit at 3 instead. He's really testing his boundaries and defying authority. Unlike Brenden, Logan doesn't seem to care much if he's getting in trouble. It usually takes 2-3 time outs before it starts to sink in that he's misbehaving.
Brenden would stay my baby forever if I let him. He loves to be cuddled and taken care of. We have to push him to be more independent. It's funny how different Logan and Brenden are. We have to reel Logan in and we have to push Brenden out. He tends fight staying in bed a lot. I had to bribe him with a glow stick last night, which worked well actually. I told him if he came out of his room for any reason other than going potty he'd have to give me the glow stick back. Of course if B got one Logan had to get one too. I went to check on them later and found them both asleep, glow sticks in hand. Brenden likes to invent games, which is fun to watch. They have no rhyme or reason but he'll tell you whether you win/lose/tie. He'll say something like "what color do you like" I'll say "green" and he said "you guessed the right one! You win!!!" -- um... okay thanks B! They both love singing and dancing and with the olympics going on they have taken to doing more acrobatic stunts. I see lots of hand-stands, head-stands, and flips.
"You get what you get, and you dong have a fit"
Someone posted an article on Pinterest about ways to curb preschooler tantrums and the article contained this phrase. It took me a minute to realize that the point of the article was to use the exact phrase when your kids have a tantrum because they wanted the blue cup ... or whatever. There is something about a phrase that rhymes that seems to mean truth to a kid. Its like they think "hmmm, that phrase rhymes, so it must be true." So I tried it out and the first time I used it Brenden looked at me like "how dare you use a rhyme on me when I'm trying to have a fit". I continued to use it for the rest of the day and now if I see a fit emerging I just say "you get what you get" and either of them will finish with "and you don't have a fit" and suddenly the fit is derailed. Of course its not 100% effective. There are just some moments when your kid needs a good old fashioned cleansing melt down, in which case we just ask them to leave the room and come back when they are done having their melt-down. I don't expect them to bottle up all their negativity. Just want to teach them that people don't like hearing fits, so if you MUST have one you can leave the room and come back when you are done. This worked really well when B was in his 2's. I could come into his room and say are you all done with your fit and he'd look at me and say "no" and then continue. Eventually he'd surface from his room and say 'all done fit' lol. Ah... that seems like a lifetime ago when he was only 2.

Summer is halfway gone already?
Where has the summer gone? Although I'm ready to be done with the heat, I can't believe we're already halfway into the summer season. The boys have been doing great. We keep cool by going to our local parks splash pad and playing in the kiddie pool in the back yard. I love that the splash pad is so close and so cheap! Quick way to cool off without spending a ton of money.
We took the kids to Monkey Joe's a few weekends ago. I wasn't crazy about the place. B had a good time but poor Logan kept getting trampled by the big kids and would get stuck inside of the bounce houses just bawling and crying. Brenden owned the place and made best friends with every girl in the place lol.
We took the kids to see fireworks for the first time. Usually we don't go because they are way past their bedtime but decided to try it. They enjoyed the fireworks, but not as much as mommy and daddy. They were asking to go home and go to bed lol. However when they were going off Logan kept saying "look at the Booo- tiful fireworks mommy!"
We are in the process of trying to sell our home and relocate to the Charleston/Huntington area of Wv. We've found a house that we love but we've yet to sell our current home. Moving will allow us to be closer to family and friends. I'm blessed enough to have a job that lets me work from home full time so I can move without losing my job. Great news! We've had really good foot traffic on our current home so I imagine it won't be on the market too much longer. Its been tough keeping up with the cleaning. Working from home helps. Instead of spending the morning fixing myself up for work I can do a quick house clean before starting my day.
I haven't been taking as many pictures as usual lately. I unjured my hand a while back. I pulled a lumbercal (sp?) muscle in my hand and the weight of the camera in my hand was straining the injury and making it worse. I backed off the camera a bit and I noticed a lot of improvement. And frankly its been so hot my lens fogs up every time I step outside! I've got lots of iphone pictures I'll be sure to update with, and hope to get back to using my big camera soon. The boys grow too fast to set down the camera for too long :)
Brenden's funny phrase for this post.... We record Wipeout for him. Its the only adult show we let them watch. Well we had two episodes DVR'd 1- battle of the military and 2- hotties vs nerds. So one day I put on the military wipeout and about 15 minutes into it he said "mommy, I don't want to watch this one, I want the one with the beautiful girls in it!" OH MY I am SO not ready for this yet lol!!!
Logan - gosh, logan says the funniest things all of the time its hard to just come up with something on the fly for him. Last night Sean had to work late and when he came home Logan said "daddy!!! I was SO worried about you" -- that cracked me up. I have no idea where he got htat phrase from, or that he even understands what being 'so worried' is.
Brenden has decided to move into Logan's bedroom. I thought it would be better for sleeping to keep them separated but B begs to sleep with logan every night so they share a room now. Logan's toddler bed was in the guest bedroom so now B just uses that bed and Logan is in the toddler bed. It doesn't work so well at nap time but for bedtime they seem to keep each other company and we have less resistance at bedtime. So we fully plan on putting their beds together once we move and let them share a room!

Trip to WV and Splash pad fun
I'll start with a story of how my little Logie scared me to death this morning. Apparently he got up in the middle of the night with his pillow, came into our bedroom, and curled up in a ball on the floor and went to sleep. When I woke up I didn't take notice of the little 'ball' on the floor. It was dark in the bedroom and I just figured it was a pillow or something that had fallen off of the bed. Sean got up a good 30 minutes before me, made noise, turned on lights, none of which woke up our little ball on the floor so he remained unnoticed. I get up and go to his room to find a completeley empty bed. I checked the floor, the closet, everywhere... no Logan. I ask Sean if he'd gotten Logan up already and he said no. I go back downstairs, hoping I made a mistake, but nope, no Logan. I checked all the windows - still locked, home alarm - still armed. I checked the bathrooms, I checked my bedroom (not thinking to look on the floor), I check Brenden's room, no Logan. I am starting to freak out at this point so I do a scan all over the house and turned on the light in the bedroom and thats when I noticed the ball on the floor in the bedroom It included a bunny pillow pet... Logan's favorite bunny pillow pet that he can't sleep without. I realize then, the 'ball' on the floor is my little Logie sleeping soundly on the floor, half under the bed. OMG... RELIEF. He wakes up, looks at me and sleepily says "mommy, I'm still tired." So that was how I started my Monday. kids....
A few weeks ago our splash pad opened up which is always tons of fun. Its great to finally have two fully mobile independent kids. I got to be like the other mommys that could sit on a chair and relax watching her babies from the sideline. The boys kept each other company and entertained. Their relationship is so fun to watch grow and develop.

we also took a trip up to WV to visit some of our friends. We spent some time with our good friends the HILL family to support the Boone County relay for life. It was such a great time and the boys had a lot of fun. Then we headed on over to my friend Erin's house and let the boys share a day with her little girl Bailey. The kids played so well together.

Nothin' but words.
Once again I'm doing my no-photo blog post. We just wrapped up the month of May. Where on earth did it go? I just think of my boys all day long and wonderful things pop into my head and I think "if I don't write this down I won't remember it at all a year from now!"
Brenden - My sweet big boy! My sweet affectionate big boy who was recently caught kissing a girl under the slide on the daycare playground! Oh my, its too early for this. Of course the girl that was kissing is THE MOST affectionate girl in the class so I'm thinking she had more to do with the idea than he did- but he obviously didn't object. I asked him about it later and his reply was "yah, it just made me tired of kissing." Spoken like a true boy lol. What will I do with that kid? He's too handsome and sweet natured for his own good. Oh the hearts he'll break without even knowing it... Now that its summer Brenden adores playing in the pool all day long and playing in the sand box. And sometimes there is no way to tell which is the pool and which is the sandbox because water is in the sandbox and sand is in the pool. If I can only get him to realize that its okay to get your shorts wet and you don't have to swim naked (though it does make you go faster down the slide if you have no shorts on). Thank goodness we have a private wooded back yard. He's been doing better about eating and sleeping lately. He's also really big into being a helper. He wants to help mommy and daddy do everything. He gets up on a stool in the kitchen and tries to help us cook or whatever we are doing. He gets logan out of bed each morning. He's actually a pretty good big brother most of the time.... MOST of the time. He's really into playing the Wii lately. He likes to box (and daddy isn't allowed to punch back, he can only dodge punches). He's great at tennis and is quite hilarious to watch as he has no form at all but somehow manages to really well. And he plays the bowling game a lot. He likes to help daddy with "words with friends" or "hanging with friends" and has learned all his vowels and likes to just sing a song he made up entitled "AEIOU"
Logan - Say hello to my 2yr old wearing full time underwear!!! YAY!!! He's even dry at night! (B still can't do that). He gets up in the middle of the night and uses the bathroom all by himself. Hes fully potty trained. I can't believe the end of diapers has come! I was informed by Logans teacher today that he'd been hitting and taking toys at school. I have trouble with this one. He thinks he's just funny and its so hard to discipline him. On top of that the daycare (with good reason) has a 'verbal reprimand' only policy. They can't even enforce time outs even if I ask them to. So I've got to figure out a way to control his behavior at school without being allowed to control the discipline. I didn't have this with Brenden, but Logan is much more dominating in his personality. Its mostly in a good way. He's got SO much personality and flare. He usually is the life of the party, but sometimes he gets a little to confident and starts crossing that line into 'mean' behavior. He loves to copy his big brother. Whatever B does, Logan HAS to do. Logan is so funny. He's that kid that you don't WANT to laugh at what he's saying because its really wrong, but when you hear it come out of his tiny little mouth, you just can't help but laugh. Examples:
Daddy : Logan dont throw water
(logan throws water)
Daddy. LOGAN! I said DONT throw WATER!
Logan : Daddy. GO inside!
Brenden : Logan I don't want you to talk to me
Logan : Brenden, well TOUGH!
(logan on the potty)
Logan : I don't have any more pee pee. We need to go to the store and get some more.
He tells knock knock jokes and the punch line always is spaghetti. For example:
knock knock
whose there
cup
cup who?
cuppppppppp --- spaghetti!!! (insert hysterical fake laughter)
Motherhood - Each phase of motherhood is different. I feel like the days of having babies is gone and now I have boys. Its bittersweet. I embrace all of the new adventures we can have. We went to the splash pad and it was so nice not having to worry about swim diapers and bottles and feedings and little wobbly feet. I love having conversations at the dinner table and getting to eat with my kids instead of feeding them while my food gets cold. I like getting to find out their school day because they can articulate it to me. And right now, they still have enough "little" in them to need hugs and cuddles and mommy's special touch. I love that Brenden still wants me to rock with him and sing at night. i can look down at his big 4 yr old face and still clearly remember that tiny little premature baby that I held for the first time. He's still that little baby to me. The biggest issues we have now is the boys fighting with each other. There's a fine line when it comes to "who started it" but also to convey to them that just because one started something doesn't mean the other one gets to finish it or mimic the behavior. So we definitely have our struggles there. Mostly they bring out the best in me. I told my husband the other day, its just impossible to be in a bad mood with them around. I remember having a down day last week that ended in a hilarious game of livingroom freeze tag. There were so many giggles - mostly from me! They make all the bad stuff in life tolerable.
I have lots of pictures from our first summer trip to the splash pad. Our park has an awesome little splash pad. Its perfect for little kids. I love that Brenden still wants me to rock with him and sing at night. i can look down at his big 4 yr old face and still clearly remember that tiny little premature baby that I held for the first time. He's still that little baby to me. The biggest issues we have now is the boys fighting with each other. There's a fine line when it comes to "who started it" but also to convey to them that just because one started something doesn't mean the other one gets to finish it or mimic the behavior. So we definitely have our struggles there. Mostly they bring out the best in me. I told my husband the other day, its just impossible to be in a bad mood with them around. I remember having a down day last week that ended in a hilarious game of livingroom freeze tag. There were so many giggles - mostly from me! They make all the bad stuff in life tolerable.
I have lots of pictures from our first summer trip to the splash pad. Our park has an awesome little splash pad. Its perfect for little kids. The trick is to get there as soon as the park opens so its not too crowded. They took a little time warming up to it but they ended up having a great time. Gotta love summer activities!

Spring Dance Recital
My boys have had a great opportunity to learn dance through their daycare. There is a dance studio that comes to the daycare and offers to teach dance classes there (you have to pay, of course). At the end of each 10 weeks they do a recital. The Christmas recital was at the daycare which didn't go over well with how packed the place was. So the spring recital was held at a local High School auditorium (which was STILL standing room only). They got to do a dress rehearsal the day before and practice out their moves on the big stage. What was really cool for the boys was the fact that the whole dance company performed there so they got to see older kids dancing. There were 2 boys that do a hip-hop break-dance routine before B's class went out and during the dress rehearsal B would try to do handstands and kicks in between the dance moves. Both boys have decided they want to be break dancers :)

The recital required the boys to be there at 2:30 wich prevented any napping from taking place. You can tell Brenden is tired!

Logan's turn to perform the song "Me and my Teddy Bear" He did GREAT!
Brenden's class did "you've got a friend in me" from the Toy Story movie. Brenden is beyond excited to be on stage. There were HUNDREDS of people in the audience and the first thing he does is run out smiling from ear to ear saying "mommy, daddy, logan??? where are youuuuuuuuuuu??!!"
That got a HUGE "awwwwwwwww" from the crowd. I had to step to the front so he could see me lol. At least he didn't try to break dance this time.

AND... she's gone. Brenden spent the rest of the recital looking for her. He didn't see her leave so it totally confused him that one minute she was there and the next she was gone!
